Bridge is played socially and competitively by millions of people all over the world:
people of all ages, just like you! Many people who make no claim to being `natural
card players' or to having `card sense' learn bridge and find they love it.
Bridge is a trick taking game descended from Whist, a bit like Solo, Five Hundred,
Hearts, but acknowledged to be the best. If you love other card games and haven't
yet learned bridge, now is the time to see what you've been missing! · The appeal
of bridge is that it is an easy game to learn, and a hard game to master, but
you don't have to be a expert to enjoy it.
You don't need a partner to learn bridge at THE BRIDGE CENTRE. You'll meet suitable
partners as you learn.

The Bridge Centre at Frontenac Mall is primarily a place for people to play bridge and/or to learn
(click on Lessons) to play bridge. It is home to The Friendly Loyalist Bridge Club and
to the Kingston Area Schools Bridge Program. There is no annual membership fee. However,
the vast majority of the regular players do join the American Contract Bridge League, 13,000 of
whose approximately 160,000 members are Canadian, and many of whom call Bermuda or Mexico home.
In essence, therefore, this is a North American League. See www.acbl.org
for additional information.
Club Games are scheduled for most days or evenings and pairs
are welcome to "just show up" 5-10 minutes before game time for most of the games. Reservations
are appreciated, though, for Newplicate games, plus special events, to eliminate sit outs. Players
who do not have a partner should call in advance and the club will arrange one. The more advance
notice - the more compatible the partner. If you request a partner and later find it impossible
to attend, you are expected to let the club know, so that no one is left without.
Lessons are offered for those new to bridge, as well as those
who played years ago and would like a brushup to acquaint them with modern bidding methods. Many
other series of bridge lessons are offered as demand warrants. The club will also provide private
lessons for groups of 4-8-12 or whatever. Cost is based on number of attendees and complexity
of the course. Contact Ed O'Reilly at 541-0034 to discuss lessons. See Lessons for more information.
The club organizes Special Events/Tournaments that attract
many out-of-town visitors, as well as most of the local area players who enjoy the competition
and companionship of such endeavors.
School Bridge The Kingston Schools Bridge program has been
one of the largest producers of youth bridge players in North America. Free lessons, free text
books, free T-Shirts, free trophies and class-ending tournaments, as well as free bridge teacher
time and other course material are all available.
The Bridge Centre offers a broad range of Merchandise(Merchandise
& Services) which includes literature, bridge supplies, bridge computer software, novelty
ties and equipment rental.
